What is the cost of my Anaesthesia?

Your anaesthetist may charge you a fee for their service. This is separate to any other fees charged by the hospital or your surgeon.

The fee for your anaesthesia can vary depending on your procedure and the length of time it takes. It can also vary with other factors such as your age, physical health, whether your case is an emergency, if there are unexpected medical services required or if the procedure takes place after hours (including weekends).

Medicare and health fund rebates do not always cover the entire cost of your anaesthesia.

The difference between what is covered and the actual fee for the anaesthetic service is known as the ‘gap’ or the ‘out of pocket’. It is not possible to determine the exact cost of your anaesthesia prior to your procedure but whenever possible we will contact you to provide an estimate of the anaesthesia fees prior to your procedure. This will allow you to enquire further from your health fund about the level of benefits available for your procedure.
Please contact Coast Anaesthetics & Medical for an estimate of your anaesthetic fee and ‘OUT OF POCKET’ expense prior to your procedure.
When you receive the invoice for the anaesthesia it is your responsibility to pay the amount shown in full by the due date.  Your doctor may offer a discount for payment made on or before the due date.

Patients who are not in a private health fund, or are not covered by their fund for their procedure, are required to pay the anaesthetic fee in full prior to surgery.
